Flu could infect 40 % of UK Population

The number of deaths from swine flu has risen to 159, all of them in Mexico, while the number of suspected cases has reached nearly 2,500. The figures are unclear because some of them have not yet been confirmed as victims of swine flu. Amid a red alert in Britain on swine flu, top health officials have given warning that the deadly virus could infect up to 40 per cent of the UK population in the next six months if the outbreak becomes a pandemic.Professor Neil Ferguson, a member of the World Health Organisation (WHO) taskforce have said that We might expect up to 30 per cent -- 40 per cent of the population to become ill in the next six months if this truly turns into a pandemic. also have decided to raise its alert over the virus to level four. The Evening Standard quoted Prof Ferguson as saying that four in 10 people could be infected if the country is hit by a pandemic. The system can barely cope with the current levels of disasters and could be overwhelmed by a substantial increase in numbers of people affected. There must be a fundamental reform of the system.
Earlier, Britons were warned to avoid all but essential travel to Mexico as the WHO said the deadly swine flu virus can no longer be contained and raised its alert to two lower than the maximum of six, signifying a "significant increase in risk of a pandemic", the British daily reported. We don't really know what size epidemic we will get over the next couple of months. It is almost certain that, even if it does fade away in the next few weeks which it might we will get a seasonal epidemic in the autumn. The Government today confirmed that 25 possible cases of swine flue had already been investigated. A newly-married British couple who being in Mexico for their honeymoon are being treated for the killer swine flue even as experts warned a pandemic was "inevitable".The ways people may be infected is by sneezing, touching or being in contact with an infected person, they say it´s highly contagious, and also that the best way to prevent any transmission is by washing hands thoroughly and disinfecting anything touched with the hands . They also recommended using a piece of cloth to cover our mouth and nose in public places.I hope this helps a little...

Gliese 581 d and Gliese 581 e

This discovery is absolutely extraordinary. Nearly 350 planets have been found outside our solar system, but so far nearly every one of them was found to be extremely unlikely to harbor life. In the search for Earth-like planets, astronomers zeroed on two places that look awfully familiar to home. One is close to the right size. The other is in the right place. European researchers said they not only found the smallest exoplanet ever, called Gliese 581 e, but realized that a neighboring planet discovered earlier, Gliese 581 d, was in the prime habitable zone for potential life.Gliese 581 e is only 1.9 times the size of Earth while previous planets found outside our solar system are closer to the size of massive Jupiter, which NASA says could swallow more than 1,000 Earths. Both Gliese 581 d and Gliese 581 e are located in constellation Libra and orbit around Gliese 581.

Top 5 Passover Traditions From Around The World

The Passover celebration begins today at sundown as Jewish communities around the world gather to tell the story of the Israelites' exodus from Egypt.
Though the story is the same everywhere, some Passover traditions differ from one country to the next. Here are the HuffPost's top 5 most interesting Passover traditions from some unexpected places. Know of other interesting global traditions?
1) AFGHANISTAN: Jews living in Afghanistan created the tradition of gently whipping themselves with scallions as a symbol of the Egyptian slavedrivers' whips used against the Israelites, says Beliefnet.com. According to the Online Database of Jewish Communities, there is currently only one Jew living in Afghanistan, and the largest population of Afghan Jews are in Queens, New York .

2) POLAND: Hasidic Jews living in Góra Kalwaria, Poland, reenact the crossing of the Red Sea in their living rooms. On the seventh day of Passover, each Jewish family pours water on the floor of their homes, hikes up their coats and says the name of the towns in the region they would pass while making their crossing, according to Beliefnet.com.

3) INDIA: A Jewish community has lived in Cochin in the Indian state of Kerala for more than 2,000 years. Its members go to shockingly great lengths to prepare for Passover, reports The Jewish Week.
"Pesah work," as it was called in Cochin, would begin immediately after Chanukah. In the Cochin community, it was believed that if a Jewish woman were to make even the slightest mistake in Passover preparation during the 100 days before the actual seder, then the lives of her husband and her children would be endangered.
The pursuit of chametz was a serious business. To ensure purity, the Jews of Cochin kept special rooms in which all Passover utensils, thoroughly scrubbed, were stored. Houses would be scraped and repainted immediately after Purim. Wells would be drained and scrubbed, lest they be polluted. Each grain of rice -- an essential staple even during Passover -- would be examined to ensure that it was free from cracks into which polluting chametz might find its way.
4) GIBRALTAR: In the British territory of Gibraltar, the tiny island off the coast of Spain, Jews actually mix the dust of bricks into their charoset dish, a symbol of the mortar used to hold together the brick walls the Jews built in Egypt, according to Hillel.

5) ETHIOPIA: Ethiopian Jews' history is strikingly similar to that of their Israelite ancestors. The Jewish community there underwent an exodus of their own in 1985, when Operation Moses and Joshua took almost 8,000 Jews from Sudan to a safe-haven in Israel, according to the Jewish Virtual Library. In commemoration of Passover and their own past, Ethiopian Jews break all of their dishes and make new ones to symbolize a complete break from the past and a new start, reports The Jewish Daily Forward.

New York witnessed a massacre on Friday night as a gunman went on a shooting rampage at an immigration service centre, killing 13 people and wounding 4 others. He then shot himself.
It's not clear if there were any Indians among the dead and injured. Thirty seven people survived the ordeal that lasted more than four hours. At around 10 o'clock on Friday night(Indiam time) authorities received a 911 call from a receptionist at the American Civic Association in Binghamton, who said she'd been shot.It was unclear how long before the 911 call did the rampage begin, but by the time police arrived, about two minutes later, the shooting had stopped.

Dealing with e-waste: what is this?

So, what happens to all the electronic waste once it has been discarded?Every few months there are upgraded versions of the appliances that we own. And, as people get tech-savvy, the demand for gadgets just keeps increasing-increasing and just increasing.....
By the end of the year, India should achieve a PC penetration of 65 per 1,000. While that in itself is a good statistic, we also have about 2 million(20 lakhs) old computers ready for disposal.E-waste is all about, Where our disposed computer or mobile phone goes, and how its affects the air that we breathe.
The e-waste goes into landfills and potentially harmful chemicals leach into the soil. They are incinerated, releasing carcinogens and toxic substances such as lead, cadmium and mercury into the air.Developed countries deal with their e-waste by exporting them to developing countries like India.
basically, Delhi(Indian capital) alone gets 25 % of the e-waste generated in the developed world.E-waste in India is growing by 20 % every year, and the only safe and environment friendly solution is to reuse and recycle.that will be best way to help enviroment.if we wouldn't do that it is going to affect a lot more than we just can imagine.

His Arabic middle name was Muslim

Somtimes I just get mad about the people whatever they say something about some good personalities. More than two months after President Obama placed his hand on the Bible and was sworn in as president of the United States, 11 per cent of Americans still think he is a Muslim.but nobody try to post such a new that 89% of Americans dont
think that Obama is Muslim.. why don't we think like that.White evangelical Protestants and Republicans were the most likely to say Obama who has an Arabic middle name was
Muslim in response to the poll question: "Do you happen to know what Barack Obama's religion is?"I just dont like it man.Nearly one in five white evangelical Protestants and 17 % of the Republicans who took part in the telephone which was conducted by Pew Research from March 9-12, said they thought Obama was Muslim.then what aboutFewer than half in each group 38 per cent of white evangelicals and 46 % of Republicans correctly identified him as Christian. You people can't see that Obama is working on good stuff to make this bad economy good.and the Democrats buddies(55 %) correctly identified Obama as a Christian; seven per cent thought Obama was Muslim. Only six per cent of university graduates said they thought he was a Muslim less than half the 14 % of respondents with no more than a high school education who said the same.
